First Ferrari?

Hey! Great resource you've built here. I'm curious, since you're kinda the modern-day expert on the 308gt4 - do you think this would make a good first Ferrari? I love the looks of it and I feel like the less computers the better haha. I want an analog experience and even though I have wanted a 360 since I was a kid, the 308gt4 has my attention. The 360s have gotten fairly affordable (although manual examples less so), but I've seen a lot of issues with the dual ECUs in those going bad as that model ages (and just general electrical gremlins writ large) and I feel like something with less electronics is a bit more timeless. It's not like a 360 is exactly current anyway, so either way we're talking "vintage" Ferrari. I'd appreciate any thoughts!

That's a good question, in fact, I had the same question when buying my "first Ferrari." I always loved the 308 GT4, it was the car I wanted since I was a teenager! However, I didn't know if it would really be a good "first Ferrari" as I was just blinded by the "want" more than anything. But what makes a good "first Ferrari" is (of course) subjective as it depends greatly on what you're willing to put up with, what you want to pay, and the experience you're looking for. I think I'll write a more detailed story on this and (hopefully) post later next week. Long story short, I think if you're mechanically inclined (can—and don't mind—doing some of your own work), then it's an exceptional "first Ferrari". Opinions may vary. 😀

I appreciate the reply Chris! Gah if I went the teenage dream car route, I'd be somewhere between 996 GT2, a twin-turbo Supra, a 360, a Gallardo, or a full rally spec (livery and all) WRX STI.  I want everything and I can't stop. Is there a cure? DO YOU KNOW OF A CURE?!? Lol

I'll keep an eye out for your article!

Well, I went the first Ferrari route with a GT4 because it was what I had always wanted and had never seen. It arrived, 09326, and the design has certainly aged well. Beautiful, and a lot smaller than they look in pictures. The Italian driving position is interesting but I am sure I will get used to it when it finally leaves the garage next spring. In Toronto, the salt and ice melter is being sprayed so it is not going outside.
